Mission Statement

Founded in 1984 by members of the former MIT Chinese Music Ensemble, the GBCCA Chinese Music Ensemble is dedicated to sharing the beauty of Chinese classical and folk music. Our goals are to:

• Promote Musical Appreciation: We cultivate an appreciation for Chinese music and literacy among the public, particularly within the Chinese community and the New England area.

• Cultivate Musical Talent: We provide a welcoming environment for learning and performing Chinese classical and folk music, offering instruction on a wide range of instruments to people of all ages and backgrounds.

• Engage the Community: We actively participate in cultural and educational performances, bringing the rich sounds of bowed strings, plucked strings, bamboo winds, and percussion to a broader audience.

• Build Cultural Connections: We host and collaborate with visiting musicians from abroad to bring authentic musical experiences to our community.

Join Us!

The GBCCA Chinese Music Ensemble welcomes anyone with an interest in our musical tradition. We offer two ways to get involved:

• For Beginners: If you're new to Chinese instruments, contact us to inquire about lessons. We have teachers within the ensemble who can help you get started. Please contact us.

• To Join the Ensemble: We encourage experienced musicians who have ensemble playing experience to join our performing group.
